Have you heard of a "Trout Opener" before? According to the IL Dept. of Natural Resources, over 80,000 trout are stocked each Spring AND Fall via their Catchable Trout Programs. These "openers" exist to help conserve fish populations due to spawning and ultimately help manage the waterways.

More Trout Dates & Facts:

  • Regular Opener (Harvest): October 17, 2026 at 5:00 a.m. (individual site opening times may vary).

  • Early Catch-and-Release Season: Opened October 3, 2026 at select sites (no trout may be kept during this period).

  • Daily Catch Limit: Five (5) trout per angler per day.(individual site amounts may vary).

  • Requirements: A valid Illinois fishing license and an inland trout stamp
